A little about Red Hill

The Historic Ghost town of Red Hill, dates back to the late 1920’s. The town thrived for many years. Shortly after the WPA, under President Roosevelt built a new school house for the town, World War II began. And the death knell began to ring. Many of the homesteaders began moving away to work in the factories that supported the war. By the time 1946 rolled around, so many families had moved away that there weren’t enough students for the teacher to get paid by the state, so the school house closed. Then the post office closed. The General store remained open until the mid 50’s, serving fuel and food to all the weary travelers on highway 60. These buildings are still standing and today are a treasured reminder to the new “Homesteaders” of the rich history this area has. This area of New Mexico has always been a very attractive area to live. Those fortunate to have rediscovered it never want to leave. The town, which is located only 10 miles east of the Arizona State line and 10 miles north of the Apache National Forest, sits at 7200’ which provides a perfect year ‘round climate. Shopping and medical services is a mere 20 minutes away in Springerville Arizona. Within an hour of here in the Arizona White Mountains, are more than a dozen Trout fishing lakes and the largest Ski resort in Arizona. And not to be overlooked are the many attractions New Mexico has to offer like the nearby El Malpais and El Morro National Monuments. There are so many things to do and enjoy around here. Top it all off with New Mexico’s lower property taxes and vehicle license fees and you will see why so many have once again staked their claim and built their homesteads here. Around Red Hill parcels range from 5 to over 20 acres. Choose from pine covered lots, to Rolling Meadows, and every combination in-between. Trophy Elk, Antelope and Deer abound throughout the year. And believe it or not even a few African Oryx!    We’re only about 4 hours from Phoenix or Tucson. The town of Show Low, Az., is about one hour to the west of us and Albuquerque is 2 ½ hours to the northeast.  Appointments are highly recommended as I am quite often out with clients. Please call anytime.
